The Great Business Bake Off (GBBO) 2017, held at Mercure Bowden Hall Hotel on Friday 9th June, was a combination of melt-in-your-mouth excitement and devilishly good collaborations between businesses from around the county. An event organised by Colour Connection, GBBO formed part of our yearlong fund-raising initiatives on behalf of CCP, our charity of the year. CCP exists to transform lives for people who have serious and immediate need, equipping them to meet the demands of an ever-evolving society.
Welcomed in to the Lakeside Suite at Bowden Hall, attendees were greeted by our table of irresistible cake entrants fit for the Gods! This year entries in to the competition were from Allsorts Gloucestershire, Officeworx, Outsource Safety, Able Growth, Partner Together, Steve Connects – Business in the community, Tayntons Solicitors, Cotteswold Dairy, Pyromaniac Chef, Wellchild and Tesco Community. All of which were delicious!
The handpicked judges, Cordell Ray, CEO of CCP, Richard Parsons the Gloucestershire Magician, Chef Richard Craven, The Chef’s Dozen, and Neville Morse of Janes Pantry were on duty to give expert opinions. We also had some brilliant exhibitions from Officeworx, Outsource Safety, Able Growth and Together. Thanks to the scrumptious efforts of everyone involved, we are proud to say that a lip-smacking £345 was raised for CCP.
Cordell Ray said ‘’It was a brilliant occasion to be involved with – not only as a judge but also in the knowledge that everyone’s extraordinary efforts were donated on behalf of CCP. A big thank you to Colour Connection for organising the event and their continued support. Thank you also to all the businesses and kind individuals who supported the Bake Off. The cakes were AMAZING too!’’
Cordell added that the money raised will go straight in to the charity, giving examples that £5 would feed 10 young people in supported accommodation with basic breakfast for 1 week and £25 would feed a family of 4 with basic breakfast and evening meals for 1 week. We know this amount raised will benefit those in need and we will continue to do our bit to give back to those less fortunate.
As for the competition, we are delighted to say that Chris Price of Taytons Solicitors was the overall winner, with a colourful, multi-layered, Unicorn cake. Andrea Hart of Outsource Safety, health and safety consultants in Stroud, and Georgia Boon Allsorts Gloucestershire, the children’s disability charity, were well commended for coming second and third respectively. Well done to the winners and everyone taking part – the occasion was a huge success.
Thank you again to everyone who attended and donated in to the boxes on the day. It was great to see businesses in Gloucestershire coming together for a remarkable cause, raise money and have some fun doing it!
